Tips for Primex Visitors

One way to describe Primex is that’s it’s the yellow pages in a paddock. It has almost 1000 Companies represented, attracts up to 50,000 visitors and generates millions of dollars for the region’s economy and from sales associated with the trade exhibition.

Primex can be a social outing or a critical trade exhibition for those wanting to do business.The following is a list of general ideas and suggestions that you may wish to consider when you next visit Primex.
 

Research before Primex:

  1. Investigate through the Primex website, ask your preferred suppliers exhibiting (their site number), check out the associated Primex Features and Publications leading into the exhibition, that will all assist you identify and set certain goals of who and what you need to see while at Primex.
  2. In developing your plan of which exhibitors you want to visit, organize your list into two parts - "must see" and "want to see" companies and use the Primex site plan to assist.
  3. Decide how much time you want to spend at Primex with each exhibitor, remembering that some of these exhibitors may also offer demonstrations, test drives, samples and workshops within the program. Also allow extra time for browsing, distractions, socializing and discussing products with the exhibitors.
  4. In setting your parameters, be aware of what information you need to capture from each exhibitor and be able to compare apples for apples. Research different products and supplying companies to find out how they differ and what is most important to you to make accurate comparisons.
  5. The major objective for Primex exhibitors is that they want to talk and do business, so arrangement where applicable, appointments with exhibitors you really want to meet with. While the Saturday of Primex attracts the largest crowd of the 3 days, it’s worth planning to use Thursday and / or Friday to use maximize the opportunity  of time and smaller crowds to maximize the benefits.
  6. Take the details of the Exhibitor including company, contact and product name and phone number as well as their site number. Many exhibitors have a range of suppliers and their representatives involved that can cause problems with tracking down the right person after the event. It may also be worth having your own business cards to avoid filling out forms.
  7. One of the great advantages of Primex is that it has the same range and most likely more brands and companies represented than almost any other similar event. It’s also more compact and you can get around a great deal easier than the largest Field Days. But it’s still worth wearing comfortable shoes and clothing. Walking around any major event like Primex can be extremely tiring.
  8. Primex is a Sustainable event, so bring recyclable bags to carry all your accumulated information from the exhibition. Some exhibitors may supply these to those who purchase products, however Primex discourages use of plastic bags, balloons and other materials that are not recyclable or harmful to the environment. Also where possible, you may be able to car pool with neighbours or colleagues.
  9. When travelling to Primex, make your travel and accommodation reservations early. Also keep in mind that Primex is within the amazing Northern Rivers and there are a range of places to stay and visit so maximize your travel to Primex by staying a few days and get some great deals and discounts at the same time.
  10. Register on the Primex website for up to date information on the exhibition, events and programming. Primex will be offering a range of new services for exhibitors and visitors throughout 2011-2012 so make sure you’re one of the first to know!

While attending Primex:

  1. Cross check your plan once you arrive at Primex as some details and programming can change several times before the exhibition.
  2. In the collection of information, you may wish to request literature and samples are emailed or mailed instead of having to carry them with you. USB ports are also popular in the download of this information without a great deal of paperwork being required. Another time saving device (and with the permission of the exhibitor) is a camera to take photos.
  3. Obtain a map of the Northern Rivers and Casino available through the Primex website, so you know what the easiest route for you is in and out of the exhibition and how to get to Primex.
  4. Remember time is valuable for you and exhibitors avoid casual chatter and get straight down to business. Be prepared to push for answers to questions exhibitors are not prepared to answer.
  5. Primex offers a wide range of business networking opportunities. Network with industry organsisations and leaders and investigate with your suppliers if there are any hospitality functions / events within Primex that fit with your objectives.
  6. Skip overly crowded booths and rearrange your plans to come at end of day when traffic may be slower.
  7. There are a number of venues around Primex where you can take a break. Two licensed Bars and over a dozer catering venues, most offering undercover sites and seating will allow you to refresh yourself and regroup. Drink water regularly to avoid dehydration.
  8. Plan to leave the exhibition about 30 minutes before closing to avoid long lines of traffic.


After Primex:

  1. Plan how you are going to implement information gathered and prepare to follow-up after the exhibition to ensure you get the literature and any samples you have requested.
  2. Sales generated from Primex can take anywhere from immediate (at Primex) to sometimes up to 12-24 months following the exhibition. Continue communicating with those Companies you are wishing to do business with. Remember staff turnover and even time can create difficulties providing continuity of information.
  3. Continue referring to the Primex website and participate in surveys conducted by the organizers during and following Primex, to assist with improving how the event can work for you.
  4. Let the Exhibitor know that you saw them at Primex when you complete your purchase no matter when or how big or small. Trade exhibitions like Primex rely on their ability to generate enquiry and sales to remain relevant and viable to the companies that invest in them. The more exhibitors participating – the more choices and greater variety of products will be attracted to display for you!
