Primex 2008 will showcase the strength of the timber industry, bringing together from throughout the North Coast of NSW and SE Qld, stakeholders and suppliers to the industry encompassing equipment, processing, contractors and operator/managers involved in the production of an estimated 300,000 to 400,000 tonnes of timber product currently being produced from throughout the immediate North Coast Region and an anticipated forecast growth of over 1,000,000 tonnes within the next 5 – 10 years.
It has been identified that Forests NSW works within the NSW DPI to manage approximately 2.8 million hectares of native State forests and plantations for the supply of timber, bringing a wide range of social, environmental and economic benefits to the North Coast Region. With the expansion of Farm Forestry and Private Plantation Forests throughout the Region, the Timber Industry on the North Coast will continue to grow as a major contributor to both the domestic and export markets.
With Companies such as Forest Enterprises Australia and Great Southern Plantations also adding significantly to the forestry areas, Primex is now set to highlight a sleeping giant that is incorporated within the Regions primary production sector. With native hardwoods and plantation grown hardwood and softwood species, production includes traditional sawn timber, veneer, pole, pile and girder markets, as well as export woodchips.
