Below is an Open Letter calling for action around the development of a Regional Events & Exhibition Precinct for the Northern Rivers.
This is an issue I have advocated for over more than a decade and one that I believe now requires a much broader regional conversation and importantly, visible regional support.
But the bigger question belongs to the entire region:
Does the Northern Rivers want and support its own fit-for-purpose events, exhibition, business and industry precinct and are we prepared to collectively advocate for the investment required to make it happen?
Advocacy with Local, State and Federal Governments is already progressing around regional infrastructure, major events and potential investment opportunities.
There is a window now to demonstrate that the Northern Rivers itself supports investment in infrastructure capable of generating greater visitation, business activity, jobs, investment and long-term economic and community benefits.
This is where I believe our regional media can play an important role, not simply reporting on the proposal, but opening the conversation and giving businesses, industry, community organisations and residents across the Northern Rivers an opportunity to have their say.
If our region wants this infrastructure, now is the time to demonstrate that support.
I would welcome your assistance in asking the community, business and regional leaders whether they support the concept, what they believe the precinct should deliver and what level of government and regional commitment should be pursued.
The objective is not infrastructure for one event or organisation. It is an opportunity to create a regional asset capable of supporting events, exhibitions, business, trade, tourism, education, innovation, community activity and resilience for decades to come.
